Night Swimming:
A recent change in UAE rules now allows residents and tourists to swim until midnight at Umm Suqeim 1 Beach. Also, located approximately one kilometer from the Burj Al Arab in Dubai. This marks Dubai as the first city in the UAE to offer a night swimming beach. The innovation behind this change lies in the installation of two “Smart Power Poles” powered by wind and solar energy.
These 12-meter poles provide sufficient illumination for the sea, with sensors that automatically activate the lights, turning them off at midnight. The swimming area is demarcated by small red lighting floats and is monitored by lifeguards. It extends 125 meters along the beach and 30 meters into the sea. These Smart Poles were designed by D Idea Media, known for creating the Smart Palms Wi-Fi stations and the Smart Changing Room at the same beach. As a result, Umm Suqeim 1 Beach can now proudly be called the smartest beach in the world.
Beach Library:
Dubai Municipality has introduced an excellent initiative. Also, offering beachgoers the opportunity to borrow books for free to read and relax while basking in the sun. These libraries are accessible throughout the day and include areas with beanbags and tables for readers to comfortably enjoy their selected literature. Readers can return the borrowed books to any library unit on the beach.
